Organic framework

Decree-Law 163/2012, of 31 July , defines the mission, responsibilities and type of internal organisation of the DGPJ.

Ordinance 389/2012, of 29 November , structures DGPJ into four organic units with the following attributions:

    • The Directorate for Justice Statistics and Computer Services (DSEJI) ensures the development of DGPJ's responsibilities regarding justice statistics and information management;

    • The International Affairs Department (GRI) ensures the development of the actions required to the exercise of the DGPJ competences within the scope of the international activity of the Ministry of Justice, in particular in bilateral and cooperation relations;

    • The Alternative Dispute Resolution Department (GRAL) is in charge of developing the necessary actions, as regards out-of-court dispute resolution;

    • The Directorate for the Management of Resources (DSGR) ensures the development of the actions required to the management of DGPJ's human and financial resources and assets.

The referred Ordinance sets the maximum number of flexible organic units of DGPJ in nine, whose names and competences were fixed in Order 16290/2012, published in the Official Journal of 21 December, amended by Order 4128/2015, published in the Official Journal of  24 April and by Order 11190/2019, published in the Official Journal of 28 November.

The Directorate for Justice Statistics and Computer Services includes the Unit for Justice Statistics (DEJ).

The International Affairs Department is composed of the following units:

    a) Legal Advice Unit (UAJ)

    b) International Cooperation Unit (UCI)

The Alternative Dispute Resolution Department includes the Unit for the Alternative Dispute Resolution (DRAL).

The Directorate for the Management of Resources includes the following units:

    a) Unit for the Management of Human Resources (DGRH)

    b) Unit for the Management of Material and Financial Resources (DGRMF)

Within the flexible organic units of the DGPJ there are also, under the direct dependence of the Director General:

The Coordination of European Affairs (CAE), responsible for coordinating and monitoring the affairs of European and related organizations, in particular within the European Union and the Council of Europe.

The Assessment, Projects and Monitoring Unit (UAPROM) that ensures the development of DGPJ's responsibilities in the area of strategic planning and project monitoring.

The Information and Communication Centre (CIC), which is responsible for managing the DGPJ's documentation and communication channels.
