Decree-Law n. 163/2012, of 31 July, specifies the mission, responsibilities and the type of internal organization of DGPJ.
Order n. 389/2012, of 29 November, structures DGPJ into four organic units with the following tasks:
Justice Statistics and Computer Service Department (DSEJI), which ensures the development of DGJP competences within the justice statistical scope as well as the management of the statistical information;
International Affairs Department (GRI), which ensures the development of the actions required to the exercise of the DGJP competences within the scope of international affairs;
Alternative Dispute Resolution Office (GRAL), which ensures DGPJ competences in the scope of the alternative dispute resolution;
Resources Management Department (DSGR), which carries out its activity in the patrimonial, financial and human resources area of DGPJ.
The same order establishes the maximum number of flexible organic units – 9 – whose designations and competences were set up by the
Decree-order n. 16290/2012, published in the Official Journal of 21 December (as amended by the
Decree-order n. 4128/2015, published in the Official Journal of 24 April).
The International Affairs Department comprises the following divisions:
Criminal Justice Unit (UJP)
Civil Justice, citizenship and International Litigation Unit (UJC)
International Cooperation Unit (UCI)
The Justice Statistics and Computer Service Department has the following divisions:
Justice Statistical Division (DEJ)
IT Division (DI)
The Alternative Dispute Resolution Office (GRAL) contains the following divisions:
Head of Department, who co-assists the Deputy General Director in charge of running GRAL
Justice of the Peace and the Mediation (DJPM)
The Resources Management Department (DSGR) encompasses the following divisions:
Management of Human Resources Division (DGRH)
Management of Material and Financial Resources Division (DGRMF)
Within the flexible organics units of DGPJ there is the following division:
Documentation and Information Centre (CDI)
The Decree-Law 123/2007, of 27 April, in its article 9(1), also provides for the eventual appointment of consultants, on secondment, for functions related to the DGPJ planning and legal policy areas. Under number 8 of said article, 15 is the number of consultants that have been set up by the
Order n. 305/2008, of 21 April.
